THERE are two terms: Diamond cut and diamond shape. Most people confuse these two term. We try to explain what actually these two terms mean: Diamond Shape: Diamond shape is the physical shape of a finished diamond crystal. We can also call it anatomy or structure of a finished diamond stone. For example "round brilliant diamonds" is the most common shape. We generally write this shape as "round brilliant cut diamond". Please note that the world "cut" here does not mean actual cut, rather it refers to shape. There are around eleven popular shapes of diamonds. These are:
advt 468 x 60 Diamond cut: A diamond is found in nature as a raw stone. It is then cut into a particular shape. It is then polished and finished to produce a final diamond crystal. This whole process is called cutting a diamond. Cut specifies the strategies or procedures adopted to cut, polish and finish the stone. A good cut will produce a well symmetrical, well polished and well finished diamond. In other words, we can say that a cut specifies a set of guidelines to produce a finished diamond stone from a raw diamond stone. An ideal cut is the one that has perfect angles and proper symmetry to manage light in such a way that leads to optimal brilliance. Whereas shape refers to outward physical appearance of the diamond, cut specifies it's reflective qualities, proportions, symmetry and polish. Read more about diamond Cut: Diamond Cut |
